Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need a landscape design?

A good landscape design can transform a yard you dread into a space you love by increasing the useable living area of your property. If you have great beds and hardscape but need to refresh the plant pallet, a planting plan design may be all you need. If you need to renovate and refresh your yard, a professional landscape design will assure your investment is well thought out and best suited to you and your family. Tell us about your project, and we can help you decide if a landscape design is right for you.

Also, our master plans are detailed enough for a do-it-yourselfer to install their own plant materials, or if you are considering hiring a contractor to install your landscape, by having a landscape design completed and giving copies of the plan to the contractors for bids, you know the contractors are comparing apples to apples.

Do you give free consultations?

No, but we give free estimates on the cost of a master plan.

Once we come out to your site and discuss the project and your needs, you can decide to go ahead with a consultation or a master plan, or think about your options and contact us when and if you are ready to go ahead with one of our services.

I have never worked with a landscape designer before. What should I look for in a designer?

Choosing a landscape designer can be a difficult decision. Our best bit of advice is to choose a person or company that you feel you can identify with in terms of their style, process, and personality. Then talk to that person and make sure that he/she listens to you and understands your needs. A good design should be a merging of your landscape designer’s plant knowledge, design expertise and creativity, and your needs, wants, and resources. Your landscape is an extension of your home and a reflection of your personal style, and you should enjoy it to the fullest.

Do you do landscape installation?

We do not provide any kind of landscape installation services. You will need to hire a landscape contractor for your installation needs; however, with a landscape design in-hand, you can rest assured that your contractors' bids are accurate and comparable.

What if I don’t like the design?

Before we start drafting, we ask for a $100 non-refundable deposit. When the design is finished, we will meet with you at our office at Valley Nursery to go over the plan and show you some of the plants and materials that are in your design. If you are not completely satisfied with the design, we will make any necessary changes, and the balance of your fee will not be due until you have approved the final design.

Can you design something that I can install myself? Or parts of it myself?

We go to great measures to design a landscaping plan that fits your needs. You can choose to install all or part of your landscaping plan yourself. Once we hand you the final design, you may do whatever you want with it. Landscaping can be backbreaking work best left to the professionals, but it can also be incredibly gratifying to complete small projects by yourself. We are here to help guide you to find the best solution for you. We can advise what types of projects are best to hire a contractor for and what types of projects you may be able to tackle yourself. Either way, we can help you create a master plan to guide you or a contractor in the installation.
